Welcome to another episode of the Mumma In Heels series, ‘Let’s Write’!!

For those of you playing along at home, we’ve already covered what we love about Winter and how we start our days.

Today we’re talking about how we each like to relax.

I have a few ways that I like to relax. And considering how crazy busy my life is these days, I seem to be doing these things a lot more often!!

  • Music – I’ve always loved music and always love to have music playing wherever I am. I especially love listening to songs that have happy memories attached to them and just by hearing that particular tune, it transports me back to that moment and relaxes me. That, or bootypoppin’ to Beyonce!!
  • Tea – I am an avid tea drinker. I drink several cups a day. All different kinds. I’m very particular about the way I have my tea. I guess you could call me a tea-a-holic!! I find a hot cup of tea incredibly soothing and comforting. And I am awesome at making tea. Just saying.
  • Wine – wine also falls under the same sort of category as tea, but isn’t hot obviously. Nor should it be consumed at work. Shame, really. I love to have a bottle glass of wine with Mr Sonic or friends and chat about our day and relaxxxxx.
  • Reading – it makes me especially happy when I get the time to curl up on the couch with no distractions and can catch up on reading all of my favourite blogs and a magazine. I’ve treated myself to a Grazia subscription, so that gives me a great excuse to have a little ‘me time’.
  • Reality TV – I make no secret of the fact I am a reality TV junkie. Absolutely love it. It’s my guilty pleasure. Anything Kardashian or Real Housewives, Bethenny or Giuliana & Bill. I could probably survive on 3 Foxtel channels – Arena, E! and the Style Network. Not sure why we have all those other channels like sport and documentaries…oh yeah, that’s right. Mr Sonic.
  • A long walk – when the sun is shining, sometimes there is nothing better than putting my sneakers on and going for a long walk. The sunshine and fresh air and scenery all help distract me from my thoughts and I walk back through my front door relaxed.

Those are my little ways to relax and unwind.

How do you like to relax?

Imaginary Shopping Spree…Boots

I’m not shopping as much as I’d like to at the moment. Besides saving for our wedding, we are also renovating and extending our home. It’s also coming into bill season and Mr Sonic’s birthday is next month, so needless to say there’s not much cash floating around for me to treat myself in the shops.

Being Co-Editor of Shop Me Chic means that I get to stay up to date with what’s in fashion and for me that’s not only research, but window shopping too.

So allow me to indulge in a some imaginary shopping sprees over the coming weeks.

Today, let’s go shopping for boots…

PeepToe ‘Miss Combat’ Ankle Boot

Zu ‘Gatsby’ Ankle Boot

Eos ’Edris’ Boot from Wanted Shoes

Saria Shoes ‘Monroe’ Boot

Have you bought new boots for Winter? What are your favourite styles?

Liquid Energy

See that girl above? That’s me. Jack Sonic of all trades, master of (hopefully) one.

As most of you would know, I work full time during the week as an Executive Assistant. My days are spent organising 2 Executives, minuting meetings and editing reports. I’m also involved in a company project and I am the secretariat of a national committee. It’s pretty full on and demanding, but I adore it and I get to utilise all of my organisational and communications skills.

At night during the week, the TV plays in the background while I have the laptop on the couch with me and punch out as many blog posts for She’s Sonic and Shop Me Chic as my creativity, patience and brain will allow. Sometimes I get up at 5am if I didn’t finish a post the night before. My passion for writing drives me and my love of what I’m writing about means I’m constantly thinking of new ideas for posts.

Then on the weekend, it’s time to shift focus away from computers and renovate our house. I’m not the handiest of people (just ask Mr Sonic), but I try to help as much as I can. I’m especially good at buying lunch and getting coffee.

I guess you could say, I’m kind of busy.

So recently, when the amazing Roxy of Sweaty Betty PR sent out a tweet asking for bloggers to review an energy drink, I literally jumped at the chance.

And that’s when this box of goodness found its way to me…

I don’t tend to drink a lot of energy drinks ordinarily, but Boca Lupo is definitely the best and tastiest one I’ve ever tried. It contains 12% juice (orange, passionfruit, pineapple and peach) as well as just the right amount of guarana and caffeine to give me a boost. And its cute bottle has even prompted comment that it looks like a certain girly vodka drink – but I can assure you, I’m not drinking on the job. I just need a little liquid energy from time to time…!!

Are you an energy drink fan? What do you do to boost your energy levels?

This product was gifted to me, but has not influenced my opinion in any way. Please see my Disclosure policy for more details.

Let’s Write: How Do You Start Your Day?

Last week the wonderful Melinda of Mumma In Heels launched a post series called ‘Let’s Write’ and we all shared what we love about Winter.

This week, we’re talking about how we each start our day.

My weekdays are very different to my weekends. Monday to Friday I work as an Executive Assistant in a corporate office, while on Saturday and Sunday I am the Builder’s Apprentice (or “lackey” as Mr Sonic likes to call me) on our renovation.

However, when I open my eyes – no matter what day it is – I tend to do the same thing. First up, I check Instagram. I love to see the visual representation of what my friends have been up to. Straight after this, I check Twitter. Now that I feel like I’m up to date with the world, I get out of bed and start my day.

Then it’s time (if it’s a weekday) that I should be tying up my sneakers and heading to the gym. That tends to be a little inconsistent – let’s blame the cold, dark mornings – but I’m hoping to improve. Actually, I will improve because I won’t have a bathroom soon and my gym has a lovely new bathroom fully equipped with GHD straighteners. So that’s where my membership fees go…

Following this, breakfast is a must. If I don’t eat breakfast, I quickly become hangry (when you are so hungry it makes you angry). Coffee. Shower. Get dressed. Then either head to work or head to work, depending on what day it is.

And there you have it. How I start my day.

How do you start your day?

Soundtrack To The Best Day Of Your Life

I’m obsessed with music. I always have to have music playing – while I’m cleaning the house, in the car, at work. The only time I will turn the volume down is when I’m trying to park the car. But that’s a totally different story…

One element of planning our wedding that Mr Sonic and I are both excited about is choosing the soundtrack. He loves music just as much as I do.

I’ve made a ‘Wedding’ playlist on my iPhone and the next step is to choose which songs are played when.

I know we need to choose songs for:

  • walking down the aisle
  • signing of the marriage certificate
  • entering the reception
  • our first dance
  • the final song of the night

I have a feeling these songs are going to not only be on my ‘Wedding’ playlist, but also my ‘Most Played’ too. Let the fun begin!!

For those of you that are married, what songs did you have for all of those moments? And for those of you that are not yet married, what songs do you want to have played?

A Foxy Outfit For Less Than $80

I’m a total fashion bargain hunter. Nothing makes me happier than picking up an item that looks expensive and seeing a teensy little price tag attached to it. I get the same feeling when an item I love is drastically reduced.

So imagine my delight one day in Kmart when buying socks for Mr Sonic, when I was able to pick up an entire outfit – including shoes and accessories – for under $80. Yep. It’s true. And there’s the awkward picture above to prove it.

Operation Renovation

Mr Sonic and I are renovating, demolishing and extending our home in order to turn it into Our Dream Home.

We fell in love with our 1900 symmetrical villa, bought it and moved in on 16 September 2011…just 5 days after we got engaged. It must have been that post engagement glow because gradually, it became apparent just how much work we had set Mr Sonic ourselves.

Mr Sonic had to rip up the hallway floorboards to file down the joyces to make them even. We have 5 main rooms that all require patching, plastering and painting. No big deal? It is when each room is approximately 4m x 4m and the ceiling height is 3.6m (or 12 feet in old school terms). We’ve also done the same to the hallway.

So what’s next?

In the next few weeks, the back of the house will be demolished. This means we lose our kitchen, bathroom and laundry.

I know.

I don’t even want to think about it. But what I do think about is all that we’ll gain:

  • ensuite and walk-in-wardrobe for our bedroom
  • main bathroom
  • laundry
  • open plan kitchen / dining / lounge
  • butler’s pantry
  • carport
  • outdoor entertaining area
  • lap pool

And I’m turning to Pinterest for inspiration…

Have you survived a renovation? What are your tips?
